Is Storytellers Cafe at The Grand Californian the BEST Character Dining at Disneyland?

Storytellers Cafe at The Grand Californian

Located at The Grand Californian Resort at Disneyland, Storytellers Cafe is a character dining meal where you get to meet some of your favorites including Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip, & Dale. This restaurant also hosts a plethora of options from a buffet line for breakfast, lunch, & dinner.

The only difference is there are no characters during lunch & dinner so plan accordingly if you want to eat here when the characters are out at breakfast or brunch! One thing I loved about this restaurant was the attention to detail and the atmosphere of the interior. You'll see signs of northern California with various paintings of mountain ranges and vintage lamps that are supposed to represent a sort of farm-to-table theme.

The attention to detail was incredible!

We started off our morning here at Storytellers making sure that our waitress knew about our allergies and dietary preferences. Always be sure when you check in to the podium that you have an allergy just in case so you can let the chef know if you need something modified.

There was a bit of a mixup when our waitress didn't know if the allergy friendly waffles were also vegan but she knew that they were gluten-free. Disney has recently changed the brand they use but I know that they are officially vegan and gluten-free which is good to know if you are planning a trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

It's not a magical breakfast without Minnie!

Every time I decide to do brunch, I end up being a drink goblin and order three drinks at a time for some reason. My three drinks of choice were water, an oat milk mocha latte, and a mimosa. My favorite out of the three was the mimosa and it had just the right balance of orange juice and champagne.

Gotta keep hydrated, caffeinated, & buzzed y'all

As someone that is vegan/pescatarian there's not a whole lot I can usually eat at places like this. Especially when there's a buffet of carved meats and typical breakfast foods such as bacon and eggs. In the beginning of my meal I thought that this was no exception but towards the end of my meal I was blown away!

Fruit & Smoked Salmon from the buffet

My sister who is gluten free decided on just doing the buffet since there is a couple of things that she could eat but I however just stuck with some fruit and smoked salmon. Our waitress spoke to the chef and the chef was able to curate one of the best vegan omelettes I've ever had!

Along with speaking to the chef, my sister & I both decided on splitting the allergy friendly Mickey waffles as we have had these in Disney World before and we knew that we would be able to eat them. These tastes like your standard Mickey waffles that were soggy in the middle and to be completely honest I prefer places like Tusker House or Whispering Canyon over in Disney World if I'm going to order Mickey waffles like this.

Can't go wrong with some Mickey waffles

Now for the main event, the chef personally Came out to serve me up this vegan omelette and I have got to say this was so flavorful and delicious! Basically there was no vegan egg substitute inside the omelette, but was a hash brown taco wrapped up in sautéed veggies with spinach, mushroom, tomatoes, & onions topped with avocado.

I was really thankful that the chef went out of their way to make that for me and this is one of the best things I ate on my trip at Disneyland.

I will say for the price point, $49 isn't bad if you don't have a dietary restriction like my sister & I. In my personal opinion I felt like the food from the buffet was kind of lack luster and fell short from what the chef made me.

I do think it's a great character meal however in close proximity to both Disneyland and DCA if you're staying on property to go and eat here. But I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to eat here like I would at let's say Topolino's Terrace in Disney World.

Had to take a picture with Mickey too!

Is there other great places to eat breakfast at here in Disneyland? Sure. It just all depends on how you want to spend your vacation & if you want to go out and splurge a little bit on a relaxing brunch like we did!
