Throughout the Halloween season, you may want to add a special touch of Disney magic to your trip during the months of August-October. Disney World starts celebrating holidays pretty early so you definitely want to be in the know when tickets go on sale for special ticketed events like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This spooky after hours event takes place on select nights in Magic Kingdom while introducing exclusive snacks, free trick or treat bags, ride overlays, and rare character meet & greets.
Now a common question I get a lot is, "Shandilyn, are these special ticketed events worth going to?" I usually always say that it depends.
Pirates of the Caribbean ride overlay with real pirates!
If you are spending 2 days in Magic Kingdom and have little ones who can't stay up till midnight during the party I would spend my money elsewhere. Especially if you are on a tight budget and only have a certain amount of days you can be here in the parks. This is still an exceptionally fun event to celebrate Halloween, I just think for some families it may not be realistic to spend an extra $130-190 each person. However, I will say some of the pros out way the cons.
Disney World does Halloween really well and they do everything BIG! The party starts at 7 pm and lasts till midnight, but you are able to head into Magic Kingdom a couple of hours earlier starting at 4 pm which I think is nice. Majority of the quick service kiosks are still open such as Casey's Corner or Cosmic Ray's if you want to grab a quick bite to eat before the event officially kicks off. There will be 3 different special happenings throughout the night like the Sanderson sisters hosting the Villain Spectacular at the castle, the Boo to You Parade, and Halloween fireworks.
The I Lava You Float at Sunshine Tree Terrace $6.99
Another great addition is the specialty snacks you can only get during the party and the ride overlay on Pirates of the Caribbean was my absolute favorite as they had real pirates in the ride. I also think the parks were not as packed on a normal park day as this is an event that you have to get tickets for. It was definitely nice not having to wait in a long line like I have done in the past on a typical Magic Kingdom day.
My favorite treat I tried during my night here was the I Lava You Float at Sunshine Tree Terrace. This frozen concoction has orange dole whip, orange Fanta soda at the bottom, and pop rocks on top. You can find this on the regular menu as well but this is a great dessert to try if you can't eat dairy and want something unique to try.
Mickey waving in the Boo to You Parade
A special touch I really liked too is the Boo to You Parade! I won't give you any spoilers but I really enjoyed seeing characters you wouldn't normally see during a park day. Parades are always magical at Disney but this one has an extraordinary vibe to it. Definitely don't miss the parade! Pro tip: If you miss the first showing there's always going to be another showing 1 hour later.
As far as the Villain Spectacular and the fireworks go, it kind of fell short for me. I would 100% watch the normal Happily Ever After fireworks show over the Halloween show. If you're a fireworks person I would recommend showing up and standing at a good spot to watch them at because they will rope off the street so plan accordingly!

Throughout my time here at MNSSHP, I think I only rode about a whopping 4 rides before we left for the night because we were so tired from our flight and there was an issue with our rental car. The best advice I can give you is to NOT book a ticket the first night you're flying in for this event because if your flight gets delayed you will be missing out on valuable time in the park. We had to learn the hard way so you don't have to!
If you decide to go to Mickey's Not-So-Scary, a good day to go would be on your rest day. Just make sure it's on a party day and you'll be good to go. Even with all the hiccups, I had an absolute blast and I hope you will all get the chance to dress up in your costumes (if you want to!) and celebrate spooky season with your families.
