Located in New Orleans Square, the Blue Bayou Restaurant serves up Cajun inspired cuisine and more. This restaurant has always been on my Disney bucket list and I'm so glad I got the chance to dine here a couple weeks ago. Reservations are usually hard to come by as this is a very popular table service restaurant, but if you wake up early enough you can score a dining reservation.
The restaurant gives off San Angel Inn in EPCOT vibes as the dim lighting is similar along with a popular boat ride running through the restaurant (aka Pirates of the Caribbean!). I was so excited about being so close to one of my all time favorite rides and we actually were seated at a table that was close to the water which I loved.
Allergy-friendly dining menu
Upon being seated, our waiter gave us the allergy friendly menu as my sister is gluten-free and I usually eat plant-based or pescatarian. You can also check off that you have a food allergy in the my Disney experience app when you check in for your table as well. Disney cast members are very accommodating to different diets and allergies so please inform them if you ever have any questions or concerns about the menu.
I think my favorite thing about the atmosphere was the fact that you felt like you were inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and you feel like you're outside in a Cajun bayou. The lanterns hanging from the branches were also a nice touch.
Hope you have a flashlight to view the menu!
Since we had been eating pretty much all day on our Disneyland trip and ate here at Blue Bayou for dinner, we decided on just getting entrées & no appetizers. My sister decided on the fillet mignon with the mashed potatoes and carrots.
She definitely recommends ordering this and she said the flavor was incredible. To me the portions of her meal looked a little small and for the price point I'm not sure $52 is worth it but she assured me that it was the best meal she ate all trip!
Filet Mignon w/ mashed potatoes & carrots $52
I decided on the vegan pasta but I asked my server if I could get it with shrimp and he was able to accommodate me. I thoroughly enjoyed the pasta as I make a plant-based avocado pesto pasta at home that tastes similar. The pasta itself was very good and reminded me of what German spaetzel tastes like which is usually made with egg noodles.
Lemon Basil Pasta w/ Shrimp $28
Last but not least, we decided to share our dessert and by then I was so full that I could not eat any more. The only gluten-free and vegan dessert they had was the crème brûlée which I was not a huge fan of because it's too sweet for me. But if you like vanilla pudding with brittle caramel on top then you would definitely like this classic desert.
Crème Brûlée was $10 on the current menu
The final question to this Disneyland dining review is if I would eat here again? Yes in a heartbeat! There's a reason why this is one the most popular dining reservations to get in all of Disneyland.
The atmosphere is unique, they serve up flavorful Cajun food, and this is one of the only restaurants in a West Coast Disney theme park that has a ride going through the restaurant.
10/10 would recommend Blue Bayou on your next trip to Disneyland. It's a win in my book!
