Disney Genie+ Hacks & Is It Worth It For the Price?

Ever since Disney Genie+ launched on October 19 in 2021 at Disney World, this little app has taken the world by storm. Some people love this addition, some people hate it and wish the old free FastPass system would come back. When the pandemic closed the Disney parks in March of 2020, Disney did not comment on when the free FastPass system would come back once the parks reopened.

The old FastPass system was really handy at planning 60 days in advance of your trip and you could choose from a selection of 3 attractions available. But, as soon as you've used your final FastPass you can select additional reservations for the same day using the Disney app or kiosks located in the parks. However, this system is scrapped for good & has since been replaced with Genie+.

This new system Disney launched is a paid addition add on in the My Disney Experience app. The different tier options are as follows:

1) You can still wait in the traditional standby queue and just use the My Disney Experience app to check at wait times

2)You can purchase Genie+ for $15-20 per person per day of your trip through what's now called the "lightning lane" to bypass the lines

3)You can select what's called "Individual Lightning Lane'' passes also known as "fancy rides" that are pay per ride- this goes for top tier select attractions such as the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom or Flight of Passage in Disney's Animal Kingdom

As someone who's used this new system multiple times now on my previous trips, I think this new ride & attraction system to skip the lines are a great addition to Disney theme parks. There is so much demand for skipping the long lines & a lot of guests may not want to pay that much if there's a lot of people in their party. At $15-20 per person per day depending on when you go, I believe it's worth the price point because you can get a lot done even if the parks are busy.

There's also a Genie+ hack called stacking that literally blows my mind because of the 120 minute rule. Shandilyn, what is the 120 minute rule you may ask? Well, let me explain it like this. Say you book Peter Pan from your resort right at 7 am and Magic Kingdom opens at 9 am you're gonna be waiting 2 hours to ride your first attraction for the day (you are supposed to be able to book one ride at a time). Technically, there's loopholes in the system such as spacing out another ride like Pirates of the Caribbean at 11 am, then you can potentially stack multiple lightning lanes at a time throughout your park day before the parks even open.

The whole point of Genie+ is to use this tool for your advantage as you can get a lot knocked out if you plan effectively. All the time I get asked on how to utilize the new system as it can get confusing if you're not familiar on how to use the app. My hope is that I answered all of your questions and explained how to use this new process on bypassing the lines! As always, I will be posting new blog posts bi-weekly on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9 PM CST. Sharing my love and passion for Disney World is my favorite thing to do & I'm so excited to give you weekly tips on how to make your trip a success. I hope you all have a great weekend &
